Greetings from the new Editor-in-Chief
It is my great honor and pleasure to serve as the sixth Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dermatological Science (JDS), succeeding Professor Akimichi Morita. JDS is the official journal of the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID), which now comprises more than 1350 dermatologists and skin researchers from Japan and other countries. Beginning in 2005, I served as the Secretary-General of JSID under Professor Shinji Shimada, and I worked to organize the International Investigative Dermatology (IID) 2008 held in Kyoto.Changes to JSID—From a closed to an open society

After serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dermatological Science (JDS) for the past 5 years, I assumed the five-year Secretary Generalship of the JSID in 2008. With Prof. Yoshiki Tokura as the new president and Prof. Akimichi Morita as the new JDS Editor-in-Chief, I believe it is an appropriate time to consider the JSID's future. I assumed the office of President of the JSID ( http://www.jsid.org/english/index.html ). My term is from May 2008 to December 2011. From 2005, I served as the Secretary-General of the JSID under Professor Shinji Shimada, the former President, and I worked to organize the International Investigative Dermatology 2008 (IID2008). We are happy to have successfully completed the IID2008. I believe that the success of that event contributed to firmly establishing the status of the JSID in the arena of international investigative dermatological science.More manuscript submissions, higher quality science!
In January of last year, the editorial office of the Journal of Dermatological Science (JDS) transferred from Hokkaido University to Nagoya City University. Due to the intensive efforts of the former Editor-in-Chief, Professor Hiroshi Shimizu, and the editorial assistants, the transition was very smooth and successful. This is now my second year, as Editor-in-Chief and I would like focus on improving the scientific and practical aspects of the journal for the next 4 years during my remaining tenure as Editor-in-Chief.
